Outstanding Support from Kalin McDonald
He doesn't just walk the talk - he rides too! The ongoing success of The Healing Cycle Foundation is made possible by incredibly generous volunteers like Kalin McDonald. He serves as the Foundation Treasurer and was a top fund raiser in last year’s Healing Cycle bike ride.
Kalin recognizes the need as well as the value of the work being done by the Healing Cycle Foundation to support palliative care at Credit Valley and beyond. As a board member on the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, he met Felicity Guest, board member of the Healing Cycle Foundation, at a donor recognition event. During conversation with her, he recognized that he could assist the Foundation through his area of expertise in accounting.
Kalin not only offered his personal professional services as the Foundation's treasurer, he also enlisted the support of his partners at S+C Partners, LLP, paying for the Foundation's yearly audits and providing the ongoing services of a bookkeeper.
As if he'd not done enough to support the Foundation, he saddled up for the 50km ride two years ago and did the 10km family ride last year with his wife Denise and their three children. Being a driven individual, he was honoured as the top individual fundraiser, bringing in $11,350 in pledges last year. It was a tight competition between Kalin and Credit Valley's former board chair, Gord Stovel, but Kalin pulled in the victory at the 11th hour!
"Recognizing the hospital's needs during a capital campaign to raise funds that will expand the capacity for palliative care, I am happy to support the Healing Cycle Foundation," says Kalin. Motivated by the loss of his father-in-law and more recently his wife's grandmother, Kalin appreciates the work that is being done in palliative care to support patients and their families.
Kalin is eagerly looking forward to the 10km family ride again this year. He's not even begun his fundraising yet - tax season was a busy time of year for him, but keep a look out for the Top 10 Fundraisers on the website - he's sure to be there soon!
