Hospice Palliative Care Teams
Any hospice, palliative care facility or organization that supports hospice palliative care in Ontario that wants to raise money through the annual Healing Cycle Ride in Mississauga is eligible to enter a team. 100% of the funds raised by each Hospice Palliative Care Team will go directly to their organization.
Hospice palliative care teams are essentially identical to all other teams, except that all the funds they raise are directed back to their own specific organizations. The money raised by all other types of teams will be directed to a general fund that will then be distributed to various hospice palliative care organizations via a granting process. (For more information about the granting process, see Grants).
Cheques will be issued to all the hospice palliative care organizations in early September, to allow for the inclusion of late team donations made in July and August. PLEASE NOTE that if there are any donations to hospice palliative care teams past August 31st they will become part of the general fund that is used for grants. So make sure that potential donors complete their online donations before August 31st.
There are no volunteer requirements for these organizations and they are not required to pay any of the Healing Cycle Ride costs (other than the required rider registration fees) or be involved in any way with logistics. Nor will they have to administer tax receipts or deal with rider registration processing. All of this is done through the Healing Cycle Foundation website. The only responsibility the hospice palliative care organization has is to sign up their team on the website and recruit individuals to sign up as part of their team. (If the individual who plans on being the team captain is not a cyclist, they can sign up as a sidekick captain for $25). The Healing Cycle Foundation can provide communication packages, which will include postcards and posters to assist the hospice palliative care teams to publicize the event. To receive this communication package, please contact Heather Campbell at Heather@thehealingcycle.ca or 905-820-6081.
Currently the Healing Cycle Ride is only offered in the Mississauga location. The Healing Cycle Foundation is eager to see true Ontario representation at our ride and encourages those organizations that live way beyond the GTA to market the ride as a weekend celebration where cyclists travel to Mississauga for the event. The Foundation has secured special hotel rates from the Delta Meadowvale, which is 5 minutes away from the ride venue. As the Healing Cycle Ride establishes itself provincially, we will examine the feasibility of having Healing Cycle Rides in other Ontario locations.
To participate in the Team Challenge, Team Captains must register the team name on this website BEFORE team members can sign-up. Once the team is registered the Team Captain will automatically be notified every time a new member joins the team and will be given their email address for correspondence.
If a cyclist accidentally signs up as an individual, instead of joining a particular hospice palliative care team, a request can be made by that individual (not the team captain) to be transferred onto the team by sending an email to Heather@thehealingcycle.ca.
The registration fee is $50 for adults and $25 for children. These fees are non-refundable. In order to participate each team member must raise the minimum fundraising amount required based on the distance they have chosen to ride. The minimum fundraising amounts are:
- 10 km - $50
- 25km - $125
- 50 km - $250
- 100 km - $500
- 160 km - $800
IMPORTANT: Please note that team members cannot compensate for each other if a team member falls short of their minimum required fundraising. Each team member has to raise the minimum required donations for the distance they have selected. If team members have not raised sufficient funds, they can drop down to a ride distance for which they have raised sufficient funds. Other team members that have raised their minimum amount can participate and are unaffected by team members who do not reach their minimum fundraising requirements.
