Team Challenge FAQ's
Can I join a corporate team if I don't work for the company?
Absolutely! Team members can be composed of friends or relatives of the co-workers of the company that is registered.
Can I sign up my entire family within a corporate team?
Yes, your family can be part of the team. Just select the family option within the team registration. If your children are 18 or older, they have to raise funds.
Can team members pick different cycling distances or activities?
YES! Each team member selects the ride length, spinning or sidekick option when they register.
How do the pledges work?
Every team member has to raise the minimum pledge level for their chosen distance. If a team member does not reach his minimum pledge level, he cannot participate, but this does not effect the other team members’ ability to participate.
Does the Team Captain have to Ride?
No. The Team Captain can register as a Sidekick.
My company is paying for the registration fee – how do I register?
Your team captain will have a specific code that is entered when you register. Talk directly to your team captain.
What if two or more departments from the same company want to register?
No problem! A company can register as many teams as it wants to. Just make sure to name the teams differently so there is no confusion.
Can I make up a completely non-corporate team of just friends and relatives?
Yes. Teams are not limited to companies.
Is their a minimum amount of people that have to participate from my company?
You only need two people to form a team.
Are there any incentives if my company raises a certain amount?
The members on teams that bring in the most money are eligible for their names to be drawn for prizes. The winning teams will be presented on stage. Individuals from the teams that raise $1,000 or more become part of the $1,000+ Klub and will be eligible for other prizes. Team members that raise $2,000 or more receive a free technical tee.
Are we competing against other corporate teams?
Yes. You compete based on the size of your team. You can win trophies based on fundraising or fastest average team speed. For further details, see "How the Challenge Works" page.
What is the commitment level (time) of the corporate team captain?
The Team Captain has to register the team, which takes just a few of minutes. The amount of time the captain wants to keep in touch with the team members and encourage them to sign up new members and fundraise is up to the captain.
Do you need to be an experienced bike rider to participate in this event?
Not if you are riding the 10 km or 25 km distance. If you are choosing to ride a longer distance, you really need to have trained on a bike for those longer distances, such as the 50, 100 or 160 km Gran Fondo. Hill training becomes important as well since the routes are not flat. Please see "Training" under Event Information pages for more information on training preparation.
Can a corporate team have co-captains (two people)?
Yes, but only one can sign up the team.
How will this benefit my company?
The same way a company picnic would - only better! Your company can enjoy the physical challenges, the barbecue and the music. At the same time, employees will have participated in a team-building activity that can only boost company morale. If the team has done well, your company will receive exposure at the event, especially if it wins one of the awards and is invited on stage.
