Team Challenge FAQ's

Is there a minimum number of people that have to participate to form a team?

As few as two people can form a team.

Can I make up a completely non-corporate team of just friends and relatives?

Yes. Teams are not limited to companies.

Can I join a Corporate Team or Hospice Palliative Care Team if I don't work there?

Absolutely! Team members can be composed of friends or relatives of the employees of the company or hospice palliative care organization that has registered a team.

Can I sign up my entire family within a team?

Yes, your family can be part of the team. Just select the family-within-a-team option.

Can team members pick different cycling distances?

YES! Each team member selects their own ride distance or the sidekick option when they register.

How does the fundraising work?

Every team member has to raise the minimum required amount of funds for their chosen distance. If a team member does not reach their minimum requirement they can drop down to a ride distance for which they have raised sufficient funds.

Does the Team Captain have to ride?

No. The Team Captain can register as a Sidekick.

Do all teams (Corporate, Non-corporate and Hospice Palliative Care) compete for the same trophies?

Yes.

My company is paying for the registration fee – how do I register?

Your team captain will have a specific code that is entered when you register. He needs to give you that code in order for you to sign up without paying the registration fee. Talk directly to your team captain.

What if two or more departments from the same company want to register?

No problem! A company can register as many teams as it wants to. Just make sure to name the teams differently so there is no confusion.

Are there any incentives if my team raises a certain amount?

The members on teams that bring in the most money are eligible for their names to be drawn for prizes. The winning teams will be presented on stage. Individuals from the teams that raise $1,000 or more become part of the $1,000+ Club and will be eligible for other prizes. Team members that raise $2,000 or more receive a free tech t-shirt.

Are we competing against other teams?

Yes. You compete based on the size of your team. You can win trophies based on fundraising or fastest average team speed. For further details, see How the Challenge Works.

What is the commitment level (time) of the team captain?

The Team Captain has to register the team, which takes just a few of minutes. The amount of time the captain takes to keep in touch with the team members and encourage new members to sign up and fundraise is ultimately up to the captain.

Do you need to be an experienced bike rider to participate in this event?

Not if you are riding the 10 km or 25 km distance. If you are choosing to ride a longer distance, you don't need to be an experienced cyclist but it is important that you prepare and train to ride the longer distances of 50, 100 or 160 km. Hill training becomes important as well since the routes are not flat. Please see Training and Safety for more information on training preparation.

Can a team have co-captains (two people)?

Yes, but only one can register the team.

How will this benefit my company?

The same way a company picnic would - only better! Your employees can enjoy the physical challenges, the post-ride celebration and at the same time they will have participated in a team-building activity that will boost company morale.
