Once you have registered you will immediately receive an automatic email from our Event Volunteer Manager, Lynn Lister, confirming that your volunteer registration was received. She will get in touch with you about specific volunteer duties approximately 2-4 weeks before the event. Any questions can be directed to her at Lynn@thehealingcycle.ca.
Pick Up Day
Volunteers load trucks with all the supplies and equipment at the Healing Cycle Foundation warehouse in Streetsville.
Drop Off Day
Volunteers unload various gear from trucks at the start/finish line at GlaxoSmithKline. Volunteers organize the equipment at GlaxoSmithKline and pitch small tents in preparation for set up day.
Set Up Day
Volunteers have various duties including stuffing rider gift bags, putting up road signs, filling hundreds of balloons and setting up tables, chairs and the stage.
Registration
Volunteers register every rider, take in last-minute donations and hand out bibs, maps, t-shirts, timing chips and rider gift bags.
Road Support
Volunteers support the riders out on the routes in various capacities. Some will drive alongside the cyclists, acting as lead vehicles, caboose vehicles, or motorcycle support, while others will assist at rest stations, handing out food and drinks. Standing road marshals will be stationed along intersections for the 10km and 25km routes and cycling marshals ride alongside the Kids4Kids Team for those same routes. Marshals ensure that the cyclists observe the traffic rules and participate in a safe manner.
Dispatch
Volunteers keep in constant contact with the road support crew to monitor and ensure safety of the participants and volunteers. They also handle calls from cyclists who need assistance.
Venue and BBQ Bash
Volunteers will assist with the barbeque, stage activities, Kids4Kids Carnival and start/finish line. The barbeque volunteers assist the chef by organizing and preparing the food and drink, its distribution and with crowd control.
Dismantle
Volunteers dismantle all small tents and materials, return them to the warehouse in Streetsville and clean up.
